10.Session on Paper Craft


Mr.Manoj N Baarot  an artist and social worker of Mahatma Gandhi Training Centre   from Ahmadabad, Gujarat, engaged a session on Paper Craft for the students of the college on 12 July 2018.




9.Condolence Meeting



Dr.Lalitha Bai,  a former  faculty of IASE, Thrissur passed  away on Sunday, 08 July 2018, following a brief illness. A condolence meeting was held in the college on 09 July 2018. 
Sri. C. Venugopal, Assistant Professor in Mathematics who was a student  of  Dr.Lalitha Bai  in Government College of Teacher Education, Thiruvananthapuram,  fondly recalled the  influence  Dr.Lalitha Bai had on him while being trained  to become a teacher.




8.Foundation Day




The Institute of Advanced Study in Education, Thrissur,  began as a Teacher Training College in the former Cochin State. On 4 July,1945  the then Dewan of  Cochin, Sir George Townsend Boag,  inaugurated the college and it was affiliated to Madras University.

The college was later affiliated to the University of Kerala and later to Calicut University.The college celebrated its Silver Jubilee in 1971.

On Foundation Day, (4 July 2018), Dr.C.Praveen, Principal-in-charge  briefed the  new batch of BEd and MEd students (2018-20 batch) on  the history of the college and reminded them that in another two years  when they complete their course, IASE would be celebrating its 75th year of  existence.




7. Transfer of Non-Teaching Staff


June 2018 witnessed the transfer of two diligent non-teaching staff of IASE,Thrissur. Ms.Sonia and Ms.Sibi.  Here are a few snapshots of the farewell meeting and luncheon.







6.Full Additional Charge


Anticipating the delay in finalizing the promotion list of Principals of Training Colleges, Dr.C.Praveen, the senior-most faculty in IASE, Thrissur was given full additional charge of Principal  by the  Director, Collegiate Education.

5.Demonstration and Criticism Lessons


Prior to Practice Teaching  during the BEd course, trainees observe  ‘Demonstration Classes’ by experienced  teachers  and also  engage a 40 minute session  with  students from a secondary school as part of ‘Criticism Lessons’.

In IASE, Thrissur, the  trainees get an opportunity to observe the classes of not only their teacher educator but also of  classes by  trainees of previous years who studied in the Institute.

Following the  session by the trainee who engages the Criticism Lesson, the  peers and the teacher educator who observes the class offers constructive criticism to help the trainee  improve own performance.








Owing to  the paucity of student strength in the Demonstration school, Govt. Model HS, Thrissur, the teacher-in-charge of  Practice Teaching, Ms. Anitha K.D. arranged classes  for  Criticism Lessons  bringing students from the neighboring school, Sacred Heart Convent.



The trainees who  engaged a session for the first time in their lives found it a memorable experience. 



4. International Yoga Day



The college celebrated International Yoga Day on 21 June 2018. 







Dr.Sreekala K.G., Assistant Professor in Physical Education, organized a special  Yoga session for the  trainees,  in the college auditorium. 











3.Reading week


Reading week is  celebrated in the third week  of  June every year in Kerala State to remember the contributions of P.N. Panicker, the pioneer of library movement in the state. The College Union on 19 June 2018 organized a  programme in the college auditorium inviting  students and the faculty to share  their thoughts on the significance of reading and  also to share   the gist of  memorable books they have read.



Ms. Sheena Jose, Assistant Professor in Malayalam who spoke on the occasion recalled the  theme of a novel which she read recently, the thoughts  it contained therein which continued to haunt her for many days.







Dr. C.Praveen  currently holding charge of Principal of the college inaugurated the  function and  also shared his thoughts about a short story by Ruskin Bond which has multiple layers of meaning. A couple of students of the college also shared their memories.







2.World Environment Day


The Eco Club of the college celebrated World Environment Day.  Dr(Mrs).Mubi K.Mohamed Ali, Assistant Professor in Natural Science, while addressing the
students of the college  spoke on the significance of reducing  waste, conserving energy and preventing pollution.









The students of the college  prominently displayed near the  entrance to the Main Block, a  board depicting  a set of habits that one needs to cultivate  to help protect the environment.



1.Transfer and Re-opening


The Department of Collegiate Education issued the Annual Transfer Orders for  teachers in Training colleges in May 2018.

Dr.C.Praveen, Assistant Professor in English of Govt. Brennen College of Teacher Education, Thalassery was transferred to  the Institute of Advanced Study in Education, Thrissur and Dr.M. Omnaseelan, Assistant Professor in English  of IASE, Thrissur was transferred to Govt. Brennen College of Teacher Education, Thalassery.

So, when the  BEd trainees (2017-19 batch) and the MEd students (2017-19 batch) returned to college after summer vacation in early June 2018  they were in for a  surprise!





Dr. Omnaseelan was  given a warm send off and the Principal of the college, Dr.B.Suresh welcomed the new faculty, Dr.C.Praveen during the  college assembly.

But, during the same month, Dr.B.Suresh, was transferred to Govt.College of Teacher Education, Thiruvananthapuram and the senior most faculty of the college,Dr.C.Praveen was given the charge of Principal of IASE,Thrissur.
