The Chair for Gandhian Studies and Research, University of Calicut had organized a National Seminar on the New Education Policy 2019 in the EMS Seminar Complex of the University campus at Tenhipalam on 25 July 2019. The Discussions on NEP 2019 held in IASE, a few weeks ago (Post No.86 in this Blog) had led to several informal discussions among students on areas ranging from values and gender to institutional autonomy and Teacher Education. Most of these are areas prescribed for study for the MEd programme. So it was not surprising to find 21 students hire a vehicle and travel to Calicut University to participate in the National Seminar. Considering the sheer number of papers submitted by the students of IASE, Thrissur alone, the organizers had to introduce a parallel paper presentation session.
The Principal, Dr.C.Praveen who shows keen interest in Gandhian ideals presented a paper entitled :Reinventing Swadesi Movement To Fulfil NEP 2019 Aspirations-A Proposal. The Organizers found it unique and invited the author, Dr.Praveen to present the paper once again, in the main Seminar Hall for the benefit of all the participants.
Back in the Institute, the following day (26 July 2019), the participants shared their exciting experience of attending the National Seminar in which they could without inhibition share their impressions on the Education Policy which would be shaping the nation in the coming years!

Each year, a new College Union assumes office and invariably the junior batch takes over the responsibility of organizing programmes. During the third Semester, the BEd students leave for Practice Teaching and the MEd students commence their dissertation work...Then there would be very little interaction between the juniors and the seniors. So, to keep them connected, the seniors were directed to organize a special programme to welcome the juniors...

04 July 2019, marks 75 years of existence for IASE, Thrissur which was originally established in 1945 as Govt. Training College. The Staff, Students and Alumni intends to celebrate this milestone thorough a series of programmes lasting the whole year.
As University examinations were scheduled for 04 July and the MEd topic refining had to be scheduled as per the Resource Person’s convenience on the same day, there was no option but to restrict the day’s programme to one hour. Two Executive Committee members of the Alumni Association were the invited guests.
Forty Two presentations lasting over twelve hours on topics chosen for Dissertation by students currently pursuing the MEd course in the college made 3 and 4 July 2019 a very hectic day for the faculty and students.
Refining the topic chosen with reference to Objectives of the study, Formulation of Hypotheses and Methodology for study requires guidance from an expert in the field. So Dr.Rajeswari K, faculty of Govt. CTE, Kozhikkode who is also a Research Guide was specially invited as a Resource Person.
A major objective of the MEd programme offered by the University of Calicut reads: “To develop a rational conceptualization of educational research.”
It is with this objective that the following two papers are included in the syllabus :
MED 04 Introduction to Educational Research and Statistics
MED 08 Advanced Educational Research and Statistics
Early in June, the students had expressed a desire for additional sessions on Advanced Research and Statistics. So two faculties from colleges which are also Research Centres in Education- Govt.Brennen College of Teacher Education, Thalassery and Govt. College of Teacher Education, Kozhikkode were invited to engage sessions for the
students of the Institute. Both lectures were sponsored by the PTA of the Institute.
