By 05 August 2019,
the incessant rain in Thrissur district led to rise of water level and by 08 August the
district was on Red Alert. Disaster Management teams had commenced rescue and
relief operations in several parts. By 09 August, people residing in the Kundupara and Chembukavu areas had taken shelter in the school
very near IASE, Thrissur, Holy
Family HS Chembukavu. As the water
levels kept rising, more families continued to move in.
As all
government staff were directed to engage in
relief and rescue operations,
the IASE
premises were kept ready for receiving
local residents affected by the flood.
Some students and staff of IASE, Thrissur were slightly affected
and assurances of help were posted on
the official Whatsapp groups. As requested by the staff of the Village Office,
Chembukavu, monitoring the Relief Camp in Holy Family,HS, a carton of biscuits were handed over on behalf of IASE, Thrissur.
By 13 August, the Relief Camp at Holy Family was shut down. Meanwhile the
Relief Collection Centre in the District Collectorate was in need of essential
items like, candles, matchbox, mosquito repellent, battery, towels, toilet soap and sanitary
napkins. Two boxes of relief materials sponsored by the Staff of IASE,
Thrissur was handed over to the Relief
Centre on 13 August 2019.
