110-Independence Day 2019

It was raining heavily in Thrissur on the days prior to the  Independence Day,  and classes were suspended for almost a week. So with  roads cut off  owing to rising water levels,  attendance  for the flag hoisting ceremony  was  quite low.  Even the proposed  flood  related relief work had to  be dropped.

Two Documentaries received from the Films Division   1. Jallianwala Bagh (12 Min 22 sec /Hindi)  2.Elephants  Do Remember (38 Min/English)  proposed to be screened on Independence Day was  screened only  20 August 2019.

Following the screening, on Tuesday, 20.8.2019,  the students were asked to share their impressions. Select  comments  are posted below:

It is a clear proof  that the massacre in Jallianwala Bagh is horrific....Those who today enjoy the fruits  of  freedom are completely unaware of the problems and struggles faced by  Indians in pre-independent India. Perhaps these documentaries will open their eyes...   Mahesh-BEd student

These days people watch cricket matches between India and Pakistan with a great deal of interest (perhaps  it is one way of showing love for ones country)...But only  videos like these that can make one realize the degree of  love and dedication our freedom fighters had  shown for our country. -Fousya, MEd student

Studying  History during school days never evoked any feelings...These videos  are indeed capable of  evoking  our feelings...revealing the real spirit of our freedom fighters...-Priya, BEd student
